HIP LOY 2024

Introducing The HIP
Learner of the Year winner 2024!

For over a decade, the HIP competition has been a pivotal platform for showcasing and celebrating emerging talent within the UK plumbing sector, significantly boosting confidence among the nation’s future plumbing experts.

Many former competitors have continued to achieve remarkable success, highlighting the competition’s role as a valuable launchpad for aspiring professionals.

The 2024 competition kicked off in January, with Level 2 and 3 plumbing students competing from across six regional locations in England and Wales. The judges had a challenging task but ultimately narrowed down the impressive entries to seven finalists at the regional heats, before crowning the winner and runner-up at the grand final.

With that being said, we are proud to announce this year’s HIP Learner of the Year winner 2024 is…

Daisy Turner from Barking and Dagenham College

Daisy provided an exceptional standard of work. Zak Rowan from Grimsby Institute, was close behind and came away with the runner-up title. A huge congratulations to them both!

The quality of work throughout the competition has been higher than ever, everyone who has taken part in the HIP Learner of the Year 2024 should be extremely proud of themselves. They gave the judges such a hard job in crowning the overall winner!

Zoe Tanner, Managing Director at HIP, commented: “The final was nothing short of spectacular! Each competitor has demonstrated remarkable skill and should be proud of their achievements. We’re excited to see what next year brings as the talent this year has indeed set a promising precedent for the future of plumbing.”

Daisy, upon hearing her name announced, shared her excitement: “I still can’t believe it! The prizes and the overall experience have truly been overwhelming. I’d encourage anyone considering participating next year to absolutely go for it!”

This year’s event was supported by prestigious industry leaders, including Viessmann, Wolseley Plumb Centre, Milwaukee, Aalberts IPS, Kingspan, Polypipe Underfloor Heating, Stelrad, Triton, WaterSafe, Wilo, Snickers Workwear, Talon, The Worshipful Company of Plumbers, Yorkshire Copper Tube, FIX Radio, and the Chartered Institute of Plumbing and Heating Engineering (CIPHE).

Testimonials

“Competitions like this give students more of an edge. The talks with manufacturers are good – you like to get hands-on with products. I’ve been lucky enough to have students get to the final in six out of the last seven years. It’s a high calibre of students, the work is fantastic from everybody, which makes it more special.”
Lee Perry, Lecturer
Coleg y Cymoedd
“It has given us an unparalleled opportunity to engage with the people who are influencing future generations of plumbing and heating. Without the access into the colleges that HIP has given us, we could never have built the relationships that currently exist between us and so many of the brand ambassadors who are teaching future plumbing and heating engineers every year.”
Glenn Scholfield, Technical Training Support Manager
Aalberts IPS
“Thanks for allowing us to be part of your great competition. It was really well run and fantastic to see such quality from all the finalists.”
Richard Waters, UK Sales Manager
Yorkshire Copper Tube
“The sponsorship sets this apart from the other competitions, the support is just brilliant. It’s so well supported by manufacturers, all the manufacturers are so relevant to the industry and a lot of them are what the students are already installing in college and what they’re working on in the workplace.”
John Duggan, Lecturer
