Meet our South East regional heat winner

The winner of the South East regional heat of the HIP UK Heating Apprentice of the Year Competition was announced as Roberto Rinaldi from Suffolk New College on Thursday 16th February at Uxbridge College.

Roberto was up against nine other colleges and this was the sixth of the seven heats taking place throughout the UK.

We caught up with Roberto, 21, to find out how he came to be second time lucky…

How did you find the regional heat?

Not too bad – I did it last year.

What was the most difficult part of today’s competition?

The time we had to wait for the result.

Are you looking forward to the Final?

Yes, I am to be honest. I don’t know what to expect but I’ll certainly look forward to it anyway.

What attracted you to a career in the plumbing and heating industry?

I like the hands-on aspect and doing different types of work.

Where are you doing your apprenticeship and what will your employer think of your success so far in the competition?

ICP Plumbing and Heating – he’ll be happy.

How did you get an apprenticeship?

Through my dad who is a hairdresser knowing people.

What do you dislike the most about the plumbing and heating industry?

Toilets.

What did you have for breakfast?

Full English.

What’s your favourite movie?

Step Brothers.

What’s your favourite TV show?

Geordie Shore.
