The HIP UK Heating Apprentice of the Year Competition is in full swing, with six of the seven regional heats already completed.

HIP Magazine has travelled to colleges in Newcastle, Burnley, Devon, Swansea, Leicester and West Hertfordshire so far in their quest to find this year’s winner.

Only one more regional heat will take place in Northern Ireland at Belfast Metropolitan College before the Grand Final which will be held on 25th and 26th April at the ADEY Training and Conference Centre.

Here is the list of finalists so far:

North East – Jonathan Caisley, Tyne Metropolitan College

North West – Luke Jones, Coleg Llandrillo

South West – Tom Moys, PETROC

Wales – Luke Evans, Gower College Swansea

Midlands – Joshua Paul, Boston College

South East – Anthony Lacovazzo, Norwich College

There will be eight finalists in total attending the two-day final, which will consist of all seven regional heat winners and the highest overall scorer.

Alongside the prestige for both student and college of winning a UK competition, there’s a fantastic list of prizes up for grabs which have all been donated by well known industry names including Platinum sponsor ADEY, Gold sponsor Copper Iniative, Silver sponsor Vaillant and Bronze sponsors Mira Showers, Graham Plumbers’ Merchant, Corgi, Wilo Pumps and Pegler Yorkshire.

The date of the remaining heat is as follows:

Northern Ireland – Belfast Metropolitan College, Wednesday 28th February

Competition judge Tony Kite said: “The students we have seen in the competition so far should be very proud of themselves for their hard work. The final will see some very skilled students going head-to-head from what we have already seen and I wish all of the competitors in the upcoming regional heats good luck.”
