After an extremely close competition, the winner of this year’s HIP UK Apprentice of the Year is Anthony Iacovazzo, 20, from City College Norwich.

The two-day event took place at the ADEY Training and Conference Centre on 25th-26th April and impressively, all of the finalists managed to complete the challenging task within the 10-hour time frame.

They had to follow a diagram to the millimetre and install a toilet, two radiators, a Vaillant boiler with a MagnaClean, a Mira Showers shower and a Wilo pump.

Winner Anthony Iacovazzo took home £1,000 in cash and a MagnaCleanse kit with a hose bag from Platinum sponsor ADEY, whilst his college got £1,000 in cash too.

Each competitor also took home goodies from the sponsors and everything that they had used within their bays over the two days.

Tied in with this was the HIP UK Heating Apprentice of the Year 10th Birthday Bash.

Current and previous sponsors enjoyed the birthday cupcakes, bubbles and goody bags HIP Magazine shared with each guest.

They were also joined by last year’s winner Tayla Wileman and the 2016 winner, Jack Miller, who gave an inspiring speech to everyone about how in two years he has set up his own business and taken on an apprentice of his own since winning the competition.

Head judge Tony Kite said: “It was a close competition and every contestant should be very proud of themselves.

“Each finalist will be able to say that they competed in a UK competition at the highest possible standard; it’s a fantastic achievement.”
